Basic Golfing Tips For Beginners: 1

March 5th, 2010

Golfing has become phenomenally popular over the last 45 years, producing such world-class champions as Greg Norman, Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods. Some first-class courses too have become household names; think of Wentworth, St. Andrews, Augusta and Pinewood.

Why has golf become so popular these days? Its the opportunity to be outside, to get a good whole body workout, network with friends or business colleagues at a leisurely pace, and to play a game that you can never play perfectly.

Your scorecard shows your progress, or lack of it, and this can spur you on to want to play again.

Here is a very basic lesson in golf for the person who hasn’t a clue about the game.

A round of golf is usually played on an eighteen hole course. Each hole has its ‘par’, which is the total number of tee shots (drives), fairway shots, chips (short shots near the ‘green’) and putts on the green, it should take to sink the golfball in the hole.

The par number is based on the length and difficulty of the hole. Pars range from 3 to 6. If you get the ball in the hole in five shots on a par five hole, you “made par.” If it took you six shots, its called a bogie, if you made it in four, its a birdie.

‘Hazards’ or obstructions are usually placed before all the holes. Ponds, sand bunkers and trees are positioned in such a way as to make it more difficult to reach the green. Novice golfers should try to find a course with fewer hazards, which is therefore easier to play.

Players keep their own score of the total number of shots taken for each hole. After the eighteenth hole, they add up their scores and the one with the lowest is the winner.

It is important for beginner golfers to not take themselves too seriously. It takes a long time to get good at this game; even though the professionals make it look so easy.

It makes very good sense to take a few lessons from the course pro, when you are just beginning to learn to play golf, because then you will learn how to stand and swing the golf club correctly.

Basic Golfing Tips for Beginners: 3

March 5th, 2010

The term ‘the long game’ is used to refer to the drives (shots off the tee) and fairway shots, which means every shot with the exception of the ones you make to actually get onto the green.

Since each golf hole has a different difficulty level, different par and distinctive hazards, telling you to use your driver on every tee would blatantly be quite wrong.

This is something that you will learn over time as you learn the various shots you need to make according to the club, the placement of the ball and your personal swing.

As a rule of thumb, the lower the number of the club, the longer and lower your ball will travel through the air. For example, a 4-iron will make the ball travel on a long and low trajectory and will most likely roll when it hits the ground, whereas a 9-iron will give the ball much more loft and it will go less distance both in the air and over the ground.

Don’t the professionals on the television make it look easy? They whack the ball long and straight time after time after time and never slice the ball sending it a sickly eight or nine feet or miss the ball altogether.

One of the most important parts of the game is the drive. If you spend a few hours at the driving range you will see quite a big improvement in your long-distance shots. Use the same club in this experiment to see what affect it has, if you move the ball backward or forward or in your stance. And, if you can, take a lesson or two from a pro, to learn the proper swing from the start.

You must master the long game as it will help you get to the green in much fewer strokes, which will keep your score and frustration levels down. Don’t forget that it takes a long time to be consistently consistent and always remember: you’re supposed to be enjoying yourself! So go and enjoy yourself.

What Golf Equipment Should I Buy?

January 24th, 2010

Buying golf equipment can be just like throwing your money into the sea, but fore-waned, you can save yourself plenty of time and money when you’re selecting your golf clubs. As in many cases, you can either spend a lot of money in one go or you can spend a little several times, until you get what you really need.

If you are just starting out and are not completely sure that you want to commit yourself to the addictive game of golf, you should either rent golf clubs at the clubhouse on the golf course, or buy a starter set of golf clubs.

Buying a set of starter golf clubs enables you to become accustomed to them; allowing you to concentrate on your swing instead of wondering how this set of miss-matched golf clubs you just rented is going to work out.

After you become better acquainted with the game of golf, you should consider investing in a better set of clubs more suited to you.

Generally, a set includes a driver, one or two fairway woods, numbers 4-9 irons, a wedge or two and a putter.

As you become more experienced and start thinking about new clubs, you may want to think about purchasing your driver as a separate item. Some players want a driver to give them more accuracy, others need more distance.

There are various sorts of golf ball available and the golf ball box will often have a chart on the back to help you select the right golf ball for your requirements. As you learn more about the game and get better at playing it, you should try out different balls which could help improve your accuracy and/or your distance.

Having the right golfing equipment is an important aspect of the game, so buy wisely!

Reviews About Scooters

January 6th, 2010

I have read tons of reviews about scooters and motorbikes, because I am a subscriber to a scooter and motorcycle enthusiasts’ magazine that carries articles about all the different sorts of scooters and motorcycles on the market. It also recommends the best one to buy depending on whether you are a first time owner or a two-wheeler old hand. The magazine is fantastic, and it helps me understand what other scooter owners feel about the different models and brands of scooters.

I have to say that people’s views vary quite widely on every subject, which is why it’s probably always better to do your own research and get what best suits you, rather than getting what other people say will suit you, when they do not even know you. Having said that, many first time buyers do not honestly know what they are looking for, and it is really these people that these reviews are written for.

However, these reviews are not meant to be taken too literally, rather they are intended as a guideline so that potential greenhorn buyers have to ruminate about the aspects of buying a scooter or motorbike. It also gives experts a run down of the salient facts. Then you need to make up your own mind whether you care, for example, whether the scooter’s seat is made of leather or fabric.

All in all, I like this magazine because it takes into account people from all walks of life, and its writers and editor understand that even if you are interested in purchasing a scooter, you may not have enough money or you might be reading just out of interest in scooters or motorcycles.

We all know that money is difficult to come by these days, and purchasers are becoming more and more well-informed about the goods they want, which is a good thing in my eyes. After all, there are other merchants who only want to get the most money they can for their products and mark up their scooter prices to excessive amounts in the hope that they will get a couple of foolish patrons that did not do their groundwork.

And I am sure that they probably do get a few patrons like that, because they do stay in business one way or another and I frequently hear awfulness stories about individuals who have paid far too much for their scooter or motorbike.

When you ask them why they did not take the time to read the reviews in a magazine, they usually say that they did not know about the magazines, or even worse, that they did not have sufficient time. Therefore it appears that they had sufficient time to work like a dog for the money, but then not sufficient time to read a short magazine review? I doubt it very much. With a bit of luck, consumers will continue becoming more and more careful about their purchases.

It is such a pity, so, If you happen to be a new scooter fan, or you know someone who is, please make sure you read the scooter and motorbike reviews before concluding a purchase. It can literally save you hundreds or even thousands of your hard earned dollars.

Retirement Gifts For Golfers

January 5th, 2010

There is a commonly-held notion that golf is a pastime and sport of big shot entrepreneurs and businessmen. It also has the reputation of being an exclusive, elite sport that is not accessible to regular blue collared employees. However, this is not really the case as modernization and commercialization have brought this so called elite sport into the reach of the common worker.

This is because you don’t need to pay for expensive equipment to join in. Unlike big game fishing or polo which require a lot of resources – a boat and a horse respectively – golfers just need a set of golf clubs, which are reasonably affordable these days. Bearing this in mind, retirement gifts for golfers and aspiring ones are more pretty thought of.

Personally made retirement gifts to personalize golfing equipment is quite an easy task as you could easily make it personal by embroidering such items as home made golf club pouches, and caddy covers. These can be knitted that is if you are into knitting or any similar craft which may require different materials.

Another good idea is to think about the apparel fashion of golfing which means to look at the clothing worn by golfers. You may even be able to establish a new fashion in golfing apparel by using your imagination to create an interesting design.

Common gifts. The most usual way of acquiring a retirement gift for golfers is to go to the closest sports shop and get your retiree something sold there. It may sound a bit impersonal to give the retiree a commercially available gift, but then this may actually prove very useful, if the retiree is still a novice golfer – you might want to get him a set of golf clubs since it is the basic requirement to be able to play golf.

Furthermore, you may find some other accessories that your retiree golfer may still need but then perhaps you could also contribute your imagination on what things can be made to enhance the golfing equipment he may already have.

Commercially made golfing equipment is also a good idea, if you want to make your retiree feel good by giving him a famous set of clubs, making him look like a pro.

Gags and Jokes The fun part of choosing to give a gag gift instead is the humour such items can create. It also adds to the lighter side of the golf-playing retiree’s party and his friends will be able to join in with smiles, laughs and jokey comments too.

The joke gift should be chosen very carefully as the joke present may represent a sensitive matter for the retiree, especially if he is still a beginner. Joke gift for golfers may be misunderstood and discourage their golfing progress if they are disturbed by the idea emphasized by the joke present you have given to them.

However, to veteran players who already know the game inside out, the gift of a good joke present on their retirement day would be quite funny because they would already see golfing not only as a way to reduce their stress and get some exercise but to actually just have some fun too.

You should see retirement gifts for golfers as just a simple way to make your golfer friend enjoy life after his career is over.

Razor Scooter Series

December 29th, 2009

The Razor kick scooter is the current-day counterpart of the type of scooter that has been about for 50 years or more. In actuality, kids have almost certainly been fixing boards to wheels ever since scrap wheels became available. As with those classic scooters, the Razor kick scooter is propelled forward by foot power. That is, you put one foot on the board and push forward, or in other words kick back on the ground with the other.

This method of movement makes this kick scooter an ideal style of transport, exercise and pleasure for kids of all ages. In deed, Razor do not advocate a Razor scooter for the under fives unless supervised by an adult and state in their handbook:

“Children under age eight (8) should ride with adult supervision at all times. All children and preteens should ride with adult guidance at all times”.

This seems pretty strict to me and is almost certainly an example of over-prudence because of the litigious culture we live in. Just try suggesting to a twelve-year that you have to use guidance on all of his or her trips!

Having said that the Razor kick scooter comes in roughly seven different guises. There is the Kiddie Kick scooter for the under fives. It is constructed of tough plastic and has a third wheel for added stability.

Then there is the ‘A’ series of Razor scooters: the A, A2, A3 and AW. These models are more or less equivalent to a child’s development in size, ability and experience, although the heaviest recommended weight for all three models of Razor scooter is 65 kilos or 143 lbs.

The Razor kick scooter Pro is a jump up in technology and so has more capabilities. It can be used for extreme sport and will bear a rider weighing up to 100 kilos or 220 lbs.

Last, but not least, is the Cruiser Razor scooter. It will carry 79 kilos (175 lbs of weight and has bigger wheels as it is meant for leisurely cruising about. The larger wheels mean that you won’t be aware of any rough ground beneath you while you are on this Razor scooter.

All of these Razor scooters share comparable features. All of these models of the Razor kick scooter are of very tough manufacture and all but the Razor Kiddie Kick scooter are made of high-grade aluminium and are constructed to last.

These Razor scooters have extensible steering rods, which means that they can be drawn up to grow with your child or can be used by kids of diverse sizes. They also share a tough braking system which works on the rear wheel, rendering them ultra-safe for use in the vicinity of pedestrians.

A Razor kick scooter starts at about $40 and so is an economical way for you to ensure that your child gets frequent exercise, gets out from behind his computer, gets some fresh air and sunlight and learns about good manners while having fun being mobile. Besides all these advantages, a Razor kick scooter will give your child affectionate reminiscences to look back on for the rest of his or her life.

Getting the Most from Golfing Lessons

December 29th, 2009

It is never easy asking for help, but in golf, it is practically a must-do. Unfortunately, we often ask our friends and partners, whereas in fact, we should be taking a lesson or two with a professional, usually called the Club Pro.

We probably think that a Pro would criticize us too harshly, but in fact, they are honest, positive and usually very helpful.

Lessons at the local golf course aren’t as expensive as you might think and they are worth it because your game will improve more rapidly and cause you less frustration, making the game much more enjoyable for you.

It is of utmost importance to be absolutely honest about your game. The Pro will ask you what you think you need to start with: driving, chipping, putting or whatever you feel you need help with.

Listen to the Pro golfer carefully and follow the Pro’s instructions. You may have doubts if the Pro changes your stance, your grip or your swing, but really, the Pro does know what’s best.

Don’t hesitate to ask the Pro golfer any questions. Don’t worry about whether your question or concern may sound stupid – they’ve heard it all before and will not make you feel like a fool for asking. If you don’t get it, tell him/her that you do not get it. You should never walk away from a lesson with unanswered questions.

For instance, a strategy might be to concentrate on one thing during a lesson, or on several things. You might start with a lesson on driving; get the grip, the stance, the swing and the follow-through right in one lesson and then practice it ‘for real’ for a few weeks until you feel that you’ve got it more or less right. Next time, you might decide to work on your short game, or the putting.

You’ve invested in the golfing equipment and it isn’t cheap, is it? So, it doesn’t make sense not to learn how to use it to it’s best advantage thereby improving your game and abilities, does it?

Model RC Sports Cars

December 22nd, 2009

Do your interests in model remote control cars lie in high speed, rapid acceleration and magnificence of form? If this is exactly what you are looking for in a model vehicle, then a model sports car is almost certainly what you are looking for. Authentic size sports cars are a $4.5 billion industry with about 55,000 units being sold every year.

Sports cars and their model counterparts are manufactured as high performance machines, which means that they can be driven in ways that ordinary production line cars can not. For instance, in the case of a real sports car, it frequently takes no more than five seconds to go from 0 to 100 mph. Similarly in a model high performance gas replica, it often takes no more than two seconds to reach 60 mph from a standing start.

Because it is more difficult to maneuver a speeding automobile, sports cars and model sports cars are specially designed to handle best at high speeds. In deed, the word “sporty” was coined to refer to a sleek but robust design that exudes power. It was later personified to refer to the person behind the wheel or in the modelling world, the person at the remote controls.

The following is a basic glossary of sports car terminology and a basic list of sports car manufacturers (many of which have their counterpart vehicles in the world of model gas remote control cars).

- FF ? front engine, front wheel drive. The FF layout has a moderate capacity for high speed handling and is seen in some models such as the Fiat Coup?, and the Lotus Elan M100.

- FR ? front engine, rear wheel drive Considered the ?classic? sports car layout, the engine drives the rear wheels but keeps the weight off the back. The FR is good at drifting corners while still maintaining control. Mercedes-Benz is recognized for using this design for its models.

- RR ? rear engine, rear wheel drive With the engine at the back driving the rear wheels, weight placement on a RR layout provides excellent grip for a car. However, without auxiliary driving aids like stability control, handling becomes difficult. These days, the only manufacturer who retains the RR layout for its cars is Porche.

AWD – all wheel drive An AWD design offers the easiest handling, making it perfect for those who are just starting to race sports cars. Audi started the widespread use of this technique with the Quattro. Japanese makers like Mitsubishi employed this layout to increase handling, making it an excellent rally car.

Because of more stringent restrictions in the United States, sports car manufacturers are more widespread in Europe than in America. Nevertheless, American makes are in equal competition with their European and Asian competitors. Some recognized makers and models are:

Alfa Romeo; Alpine; Aston Martin; Austin-Healey; BMW; Bugatti; Caterham; Davrian; De Lorean; Ferrari; Fisker; Jaguar; Koenigsegg; Lamborghini; Lotus; McLaren; Maserati; MG; Morgan; Panoz; Porsche; Triumph; TVR; Vector.

If this piece has whetted your desire for a sports car, go out and purchase one now, if you are wealthy. If not, why not do the next best thing and get yourself a 1:8 or even a 1:5 petrol-powered, radio-controlled sports car?

Owen Jones, the author of this article, writes on many subjects, but is currently involved with the petrol remote control car. If you have an interest in model or toy rc vehicles, please go over to our website now at 1/5 Scale RC Cars

The Razor A Scooter Could Save You Money

December 22nd, 2009

The Razor A scooter is a fantastic suggestion for anybody desiring to stay healthy. These days loads of people are desk-bound and we all seem to have less time for just going out for a walk, which is the age-old antidote for gaining a few pounds. The Razor A scooter can assist you here.

How frequently have you thought, ‘I haven’t got time to walk’ or ‘I can’t be bothered to walk’ and then have jumped in the car instead? But what if you had a Razor A scooter handy? You could just scooter down to the store or the park. You could take the dog for longer walks and at a brisker pace too, something your dog would definitely appreciate.

The Razor A series or its bigger siblings, the Razor Pro or Razor Cruiser, are not costly costing between $40 and $60, cheaper at Amazon or eBay, yet they will quickly save you hundreds of dollars on fuel. After all, starting a car is often the most expensive part of a short journey.

The Razor A scooter is also very versatile. Weighing in at approximately six pounds, anybody could carry it without difficulty up or down a couple of stairs or lift it in or out of the trunk of a car. But not only that, it folds up too, so that the whole scooter is only a couple of feet long by six inches high by six inches wide. It will without difficulty fit in a passage sideboard or the boot of a car.

Your Razor A scooter could be used in numerous ways to save you money and keep you trimmer. For example, if you need a loaf of bread, you could jump on your scooter. You could take you dog to the park. You could scooter with your kids ‘in a pack’. You could put a Razor A scooter in the boot of your car and scooter the last half a mile into school. And every time you get on that scooter, you are burning not motor fuel but fat!

Think of it that way. You are saving fuel and money and burning your excess calories at the same time. You are also exercising your legs and raising your metabolism and heart rate too. That is everything the bank manager and the doctor advised all combined into one activity. And you will be in excellent company too.

Do you know who else’s children ride Razor A scooters? Well, there’s Al Pacino’s twins for a start. Now, Al Pacino is not short of a few dollars, I’m sure, so you can be certain that he’s going to want the finest for his kids, isn’t he? And Lisa Kudrow and her son. And Liv and Cal, progeny of Julianne Moore and Bart Freundlich. You would be forgiven for thinking, ‘Aw well, they got theirs for nothing!’ and that may be spot on, but at roughly $40 who cares?

The advantages in saved motor fuel and increased exercise make the Razor A scooter a must-have essential in my book. So, take another look at the Razor A scooter and keep in mind, someone’s birthday’s coming up before long.

If you would like to know more about the Razor A scooter or if you would like to buy a heavily reduce-priced scooter, visit to our web site at http://razorascooter.com
